Packing Tips For Your Next Move

Moving can be a stressful time. You're literally packing up every single thing you own and taking it to an entirely new location. No matter if you're moving to a new neighborhood, new city, or an entirely new part of the country, it is a stressful time. Packing your belongings can be a big part of that stress, as you don't realize how many things you own until you start packing it all up. See below for some helpful packing tips to make your move a little less stressful on you:

Invest In New Boxes

It may seem like a convenience to use old, used boxes to move your belongings, but you could be setting yourself up for failure. Older boxes aren't going to be as supportive as a new box will and you could potentially end up with a broken box (and possibly some broken belongings as well). Invest in new boxes which can be purchased from a local moving company or from a storage company.

Pack Heavy Items In Smaller Boxes

If you have a lot of books, pack these in smaller boxes to make them easier to carry and handle. The same goes for heavy kitchen items such as plates and serving ware. Don't try to pack too many of these in one box, you could end up with a broken box or worse - a broken back.

Make Use Of Empty Spaces

Empty dresser drawers can be filled with clothing to save space and free up boxes. You can also fill up luggage with items as well with things such as clothing, toiletries, books and other items to save some space on the moving truck and to take advantage of rolling storage.

Mark And Catalog All Boxes

Mark all of your boxes with more description than "Kitchen" or "Bedroom". Mark the boxes with a description of everything inside to make finding these items later a little easier. If you're using a moving company, be sure to catalog your items and give a copy to your moving company just in case something gets lost or left behind during the move.

Hire A Packing And Moving Company

To help make your move even less stressful on you, hire a company to pack your belongings for you and a moving company to move your things. This will take the stress off of you and they have the know-how to pack up your things without second-guessing where to put things and how to pack them. A moving company will get your belongings from point A to point B in one trip - no need to drive your own truck or rent a truck and make several trips back and forth.

Moving is stressful. Take some of the stress off of yourself by packing properly. If need be, hire a professional packing and moving company like M Dyer & Sons Inc.
